Deep down I have always had a love for airplanes. I come from a family in aviation going back generations. When I was a child my parents would take my brother and I to YVR and watch the planes land. My father would quiz me on the types of aircrafts as they would land and we would always try to guess where these flights came from. One day he took me on a flight with him up to Whitehorse where I was able to sit in the jumpseat. This was the start of my love and passion for aviation.
I started working at Hawkair back in 2004 as a Customer Service Agent at our YVR base. I instantly fell in love with the excitement and fast pace of the aviation industry. I knew that this is where I belonged.
I am a driven person and I like to take every opportunity that I see, even if it the thought of it intimidates me. When our Base Manager left Hawkair a posting was made for the YVR base as Lead Hand. I instantly knew that I wanted to apply. I did apply and ended up taking on that position which I loved. A few years later a posting came out for Safety Systems Manager. At the time Safety Management Systems (SMS) was a relatively new system in aviation and I wasn’t really sure what it entailed however I thought of it as an opportunity to learn something completely new within aviation. During the past 5 years as the Safety Systems Manager there have been many obstacles to overcome however I have always loved the challenge.
Besides my sheer love for aviation, my other motivator for success is my two beautiful daughters. I want to be a positive role model by showing them that woman can be successful and have great careers. My children are what get me up in the morning and they are what I love to come home to.
