The Calgary Food Blogging Scene

When I first moved to Calgary, the food scene was primarily steak houses. While there was an array of restaurants to choose from, Calgary was known for its Alberta Beef.

With the real estate market bursting, and people moving to Calgary in droves, came the explosion of the Calgary food scene. New restaurants started popping up everywhere, support local and farm to table became the mantra of the local Chefs, and more home cooks and Food Bloggers started showcasing their recipes and food for food writers, influencers, bloggers and Chefs opening new restaurants.

Today the food community continues to grow, with food events occurring throughout the year. Chef collaborations, YYC Burger Week, Poutine Week and Pizza Week all supporting charities. Diner en Blanc, food tours, and special events pairing Chefs and food bloggers keep the food community happy and the food bloggers busy.

At this point you might be wondering what a food blogger is. A food blogger is a home cook who loves to share food, cooking, recipes, and food photographs in what might be considered an online journal for all to
see. These are paired with thoughts and stories which may or may not involve food, but will always share a little insight into the blogger and how a post might have come to be. Every food blogger is different and every
story unique.

If you’re looking for some recipe inspiration or blogging tips, check out Julie Van Rosendaal over at Dinner with Julie Julie is a cookbook author, editor, contributor to many magazines, a regular on the CBC Eyeopener, and a well-known food blogger.
