Meet the Crew: Women in Leadership 2014

The Women in Leadership Executive Development Program supports the development of women aspiring to be in leadership roles or already in leadership roles within Hawkair. Today, we are profiling two of our team members who are taking part in the program.

Taryn Acheson

Hawkair’s Safety Systems Manager

Taryn started working at Hawkair in 2004 as a Customer Service Agent at the YVR base. She instantly fell in love with the excitement and fast pace of the aviation industry and knew that this is where she belonged. Taryn is a driven person and likes to take every opportunity that she sees, even if it the thought of it intimidates her. Taryn has also had the role of a Base Lead Customer Service agent in YVR and 5 years ago was promoted to the Safety Systems Manager. Besides her sheer love for aviation, her other motivator for success is her two beautiful daughters. Taryn wants to be a positive role model by showing them that woman can be successful and have great careers. Her children are what get her up in the morning and they are what she loves to come home to.

Taryn has recently been accepted into Hawkair’s Women in Leadership Development Program.

“I am extremely excited to be accepted into the program and looking forward to gaining knowledge within other areas, increasing my confidence by finding my leadership voice and the journey of personal growth.”

Said Taryn Acheson Safety Systems Manager “My goal is to apply my increased skillset to other business units and be a high performing leader within the company.”

Taryn’s program roadmap over the next 24 months includes earning her CRSP designation, education within Leadership and Management, roles within Strategy, Finance, Human Resources, and Operations  and representing the company at safety and regulatory related conferences.

Karolina Bulvova

Hawkair’s Assistant Flight Attendant Manager

Karolina Bulvova was born in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic and moved to BC at the young age of 4. Her love for languages is apparent as she is conversational in Italian, German and French in addition to fluency in English and Czech.

In 2008, Karolina was able to pursue her aviation dream and become a Flight Attendant working for several carriers including Skyservice Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, US Airways, Qatar Airways and Canjet Airlines. She expanded her aviation knowledge by also working as a CSA, operations agent and Base Supervisor.

As she was still teaching part-time during her airline work, she became the Associate Director of Academics at Sprott-Shaw Community College managing instructors and administrative staff while fulfilling the needs of students. Currently, Karolina is working at Hawkair as the Assistant Flight Attendant Manager responsible for flight attendant performance management including training, line indoctrinations, performance reviews and line checks while maintaining regulatory compliance through program development.  Karolina’s program roadmap includes rotational assignments lasting 12 months each as Hawkair’s Airline Support Manager and Aviation Services Support Manager, pursuing her certification as an IRCA auditor and industry specific training to broaden her technical knowledge. Karolina is the 3rd female in Hawkair to be accepted in the Women in Leadership Program.

“I am extremely appreciative and excited for being presented with this opportunity to represent Hawkair through the Women in Leadership Program” said Karolina Bulvova.

“I hope to acquire the knowledge to be able to implement the highest standard of quality for Hawkair’s customers and team members while being a positive role model for young women attempting to accomplish their dreams”.
